Creating a workspace that feels anything but conventional was at the heart of the Citadel project, led by talented interior designer Kathrine McDonald. Transforming a former office garage into a dynamic, multi-functional environment, the design combines warmth, functionality, and a touch of nature-inspired elegance.
Design Vision
The concept centred around crafting an inviting workspace that balances professional functionality with an intimate, home-like atmosphere. Curved elements play a key role, softening the interior and creating natural zones for working, meeting, and relaxing. The combination of textures—dark charred timber walls, fabric-clad banquette seating, and honed mosaic-tiled columns in deep green—brings depth and serenity.
Flooring Selections
Timber: Godfrey Hirst - Oak Elegance in Coastal Oak
The warm, natural tones of this engineered timber floor bring a sense of grounding and timeless beauty. Its durable finish ensures longevity while complementing the rich textures used throughout the space.
Carpet Tiles: Belgotex - Take a Walk in Beige
Chosen for its eco-conscious story, these carpet tiles add subtle texture while offering exceptional durability and comfort underfoot. Their soft, neutral hue harmonises with the workspace’s earthy palette, enhancing its calm and inviting atmosphere.
Design Highlights
The workspace features thoughtfully designed zones, including dedicated workspaces, collaborative meeting areas, and a sleek, sophisticated “whisky zone.” Deep green Verde Alpi marble cabinetry and natural foliage inject organic character, seamlessly blending nature with the built environment.
The result is a carefully curated workspace that balances functionality with a sense of calm sophistication. Warm timber tones, soft textures, and organic elements come together to create a welcoming environment that feels both professional and inviting—a perfect blend of style and purpose that reflects Kathrine McDonald’s design vision and attention to detail.
